Late August and early September 2017, Hurricanes devastated the Texas Gulf Coast, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and areas in Florida. Many buildings and homes throughout these regions were destroyed and many areas are under water leaving thousands displaced and multiple lives lost. 2. Per references (a) through (d), Department of the Navy (DON) employees can provide immediate support to those impacted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma by making a financial contribution directly to the voluntary organization of their choice. Many charitable organizations providing direct disaster relief can be found by checking the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s website at https://www.fema.gov/volunteer-donate-responsibly. 3. Beyond immediate needs, the people in these regions will face a long-term rebuilding process. To support those efforts, you may consider supporting a charity providing assistance to the victims via the 2017 Combined Federal Campaign which kicks off October 2, 2017, and will run through January 12, 2018. 4. The DON is not conducting a special solicitation and therefore, federal employees are not authorized to collect funds on behalf of charitable organizations. 5. Additional information is available by contacting the DON Disaster Relief Coordinator, Mr. Ray Sutton at (703) 571-2098 or ray.sutton1@navy.mil. 6. Released by the Honorable Richard V. Spencer, Secretary of the Navy.// BT #0001 NNNN UNCLASSIFIED//
