The Department of the Navys (DON) Energy Awards Program is designed to promote excellence in the areas of energy security, new technology, innovation, program management, and efficiency across the DON. Per reference (a), the Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) annually recognizes the accomplishments of Navy and Marine Corps activities who demonstrate leadership and effectiveness in these areas. 2. This year there are 14 awards that will recognize outstanding overall energy performance during Fiscal Year (FY) 2018. 3. One command will be selected for the top award in each category. Award categories are: a. Surface Combatant (Medium/Large): DDG, CG b. Surface Combatant (Small): MCM, PC, LCS c. Amphib (Large): LCC, LHA, LHD d. Amphib (Small/Medium): LPD, LSD e. Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic: Aviation Squadron f. Commander, Naval Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet: Aviation Squadron g. Navy Expeditionary Unit h. Marine Corps Expeditionary Unit i. Military Sealift Command Unit j. Navy Shore Activity Large (greater than or equal to 500,000 million British Thermal Units (BTU) of energy consumption during the FY) k. Navy Shore Activity Small (less than 500,000 million BTU of energy consumption during the FY) l. Marine Corps Shore Activity Large (greater than or equal to 500,000 million BTU of energy consumption during the FY) m. Marine Corps Shore Activity Small (less than 500,000 million BTU of energy consumption during the FY) n. Supported Command Activity (Navy and Marine Corps tenant commands) 4. The Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) and the Commandant of the Marine Corps (CMC) shall disseminate FY 2018 specific award criteria and procedures according to the award categories listed above. 5. In addition to the SECNAV Energy Excellence Award winners, activities shall be assessed against three levels of achievement established by the services: platinum, gold, and blue. These standards assist in identifying excellence and areas for improvement across the DON energy program management. 6. Navy and Marine Corps are to submit their recommendations for FY 2018 SECNAV award winners via email to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Installations and Facilities) office in accordance with their respective awards criteria no later than 27 June 2018. Nominations received after the deadline will not be considered. 7. A panel will review the submissions and recommend award winners to SECNAV for final approval. SECNAV award winners will be announced no later than 31 July 2018. 8. For planning purposes, reference (a) is currently undergoing revision and will be updated during FY 2018. CNO and CMC shall issue service-level implementing instructions no later than 180 days from date of signing of the updated SECNAV instruction.
