Only through well-informed and deliberate risk decisions, both on and off-duty, can we effectively protect our people and material resources and transform our safety culture to one that mirrors world-class performance. The prestigious Secretary of the Navy Safety Excellence Awards recognize Navy and Marine Corps Units that have achieved unparalleled safety and occupational program performance. Safety and risk management are indispensable to effectively prepare for and complete the Department of the Navys mission, whether at home or deployed in harm's way. The accomplishments of these units are vivid examples of a strong commitment to readiness, disciplined decision making, and delivering the Navy the Nation Needs.
