The Navy and Marine Corps promote safety year-round, but we place extra emphasis on safety throughout the 101 Critical Days of Summer between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend. This period is hazardous for our naval personnel as travel and recreational activities increase. In fact, we lose more Sailors and Marines during this time of year than any other. 2. This year's campaign dates are 25 May 2020 through 7 September 2020. As the weather gets warmer and the days grow longer, and as Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) restrictions start to ease across the country, we will likely spend more time swimming, boating, riding motorcycles, celebrating Americas birthday with fireworks, and hosting barbecues with family and friends. Often we take part in these inherently dangerous activities without stopping to think how to mitigate their risks, which leads to mishaps and injuries. 3. We urge commanders, supervisors, and all Navy and Marine Corps team members to take care of themselves and look out for each other physically, mentally, and spiritually. This ensures we are ready to win today, prepare for tomorrow, and sustain ourselves as the greatest naval force in the world. 4. Our operational tempo remains high, and so do related stressors. Take some well-deserved time this summer to enjoy family and friends, and recharge your batteries, but do so wisely and safely. Assess and manage the risks in all you do. Apply risk management principles and self-discipline. 5. Thank you and your families for your service to our naval team and the Nation. We are proud to serve alongside all of you. 6. Released by the Honorable James E. McPherson, Acting Secretary of the Navy, Admiral Michael M. Gilday, Chief of Naval Operations, and General David H. Berger, Commandant of the Marine Corps.
