This ALNAV announces Navy Medicine's COVID-19 Return to Flight Duty Status Guideline in response to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). This policy applies to all Navy and Marine Corps personnel requiring a Class 1 or Class 2 Special Duty Medical Examination for flight duty status as required in reference (a) and defined in reference (b). Naval aircrew who have been exposed to COVID-19, tested positive for COVID-19, or infected with COVID-19 will require a defined evaluation, per reference (c), to return to flight duty status. The Navy Medicine COVID-19 Return to Flight Duty Status Guideline is contained in reference (c), Respiratory section: https://www.med.navy.mil/sites /nmotc/nami/arwg/pages/ aeromedicalreferenceandwaiverguide.aspx. 2. To support the medical readiness of the armed forces, Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command, Commanders and Commanding Officers, and Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Unit Officers-in-Charge shall provide for expedited medical evaluations, referrals, laboratory services, electrocardiograms , pulmonary function tests (PFT), exercise tolerance testing (ETT), and Naval Aerospace Medicine Institute (NAMI) submissions. Expedited consults, ETT, and PFT are defined as performed and completed within seven business days from the time of the consult or order. These consults and tests will not require pre -appointment COVID-19 testing if patient has met the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recovery criteria and it is less than 90 days from date of symptom onset. 3. NAMI will conduct submission review within two business working days for completed submissions that require NAMI duty disposition per reference (c). Aerospace Medicine providers who conduct a return to flight duty status evaluation on aircrew who had a symptomatic case of COVID-19 shall report each evaluation to the aircrew's Type Commander Force Surgeon, Marine Air Wing Surgeon, or if outside those administrative controls to the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Branch Head, Aerospace Medicine Programs. 4. All commands with personnel who are required to have a Class 1 or Class 2 Aeromedical Examination to be in a Special Duty Flight Status, with personnel who perform Aeromedical Examinations, and with personnel who provide medical care for naval aircrew will execute and distribute this policy. 5. Per reference (c), this ALNAV applies to all civilian and uniformed military Navy and Marine Corps personnel required to meet Class 1 and Class 2 aeromedical physical standards to continue in their Special Duty Flight Status. 6.
