Since 1904, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) has provided need-based financial assistance to active duty and retired Sailors, Marines, their families, surviving spouses, and children. With over 200 offices ashore and at sea, NMCRS provided financial assistance for more than 35,000 Sailors, Marines, Retirees, and Sea Service families with over $29 million in interest-free loans and grants in 2021. The past two years have proven particularly challenging as demand for NMCRS services remains extraordinarily high due to the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. 2. March 1, 2022 kicked off the annual Active Duty Fund Drive (ADFD) in support of NMCRS. The goal for the 2022 ADFD is to raise $12.5 million. While the opportunity to support NMCRS with a financial contribution is an option, the most important objective is to ensure every Sailor and Marine is made aware of the diverse programs and services available to them from NMCRS by ensuring 100 percent meaningful contact. 3. This year's "By Our Own, For Our Own" campaign is our opportunity to raise awareness about NMCRS and provide an opportunity to Sailors and Marines to ensure NMCRS continues to meet its mission of financial and educational support for Navy and Marine Corps Service Members and their families. The annual ADFD is an all hands effort and I depend on leaders at every level of command to ensure a most successful campaign. 4. Commands and organizations should follow all guidance and policy associated with COVID-19 protocols. Consistent with rules for the use of appropriated funds, commanders may authorize the use of appropriated funds for traditional kickoff events, recognition ceremonies, and other non- solicitation events to support the ADFD. 5. Additional information on NMCRS can be found at https://www.nmcrs.org/. The point of contact for NMCRS is Ms. Lisa F. Brookes, DON/AA (PID), who can be reached at (703) 695-0541 or e-mail at lisa.f.brookes.civ@us.navy.mil. 6.
