From April 24, 2022 through May 1, 2022, we join the international community in observing the Holocaust Days of Remembrance, with Holocaust Remembrance Day occurring on April 28, 2022. The Holocaust Days of Remembrance are observed each year during the week that runs from the Sunday before Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah) through the following Sunday. Through the Holocaust Days of Remembrance and Remembrance Day, we remember the anniversary of the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the largest uprising from Europe's Jewish Community and the first significant urban revolt against Nazi German occupation during World War II. Additionally, we acknowledge the 180,000 to 225,000 refugees that sought the protection of our Nation from 1933 to 1945, more than any other Nation during this time period. We further devote this week to remembering the approximately six million members of the Jewish community and five million others who perished in the Holocaust as a result of the actions carried out by Nazi Germany and its accessories. In North America, the Jewish Community observes Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah) within the synagogue, and through communal vigils and educational programs. In celebrating this year's theme, "Memory, Dignity and Justice," we remind ourselves that the crafting of history and memory upholds those whom the perpetrators of the Holocaust intended to eliminate. There is no question that this day holds great meaning for the Jewish community in the U.S. and across the world. In observing the Holocaust Days of Remembrance and Holocaust Remembrance Day, we encourage action to denounce hatred, strengthen solidarity and champion compassion in order to ensure that such a tragedy will never happen again.
