RMKS/1.  On Monday, January 16, 2023, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. 
Martin Luther King Jr., a civil rights leader and activist who worked 
tirelessly for equality, justice, and peace for all.  Dr. Martin Luther King 
Jr. Day 2023 (MLK Day) is a day to volunteer, bridge divides, strengthen ties 
and engage with our communities as a means to create constructive action for 
greater equity.   
In honoring the continuous theme of "Remember!  Celebrate!  Act!  A Day On, 
Not A Day Off!," we remind ourselves of Dr. King's enduring dream of a 
society where all people can share in the wealth of the earth, for America to 
uphold to the principles it was founded upon, and where each of us can work 
to live in a community where we care for everyone. 
 
2.  Diversity across the Department of the Navy has continued to expand 
through a culture that assesses people based on talents and skills. We must 
remain committed to creating an inclusive environment and to removing 
workplace barriers that serve as obstacles to the recruitment and retention 
of a more diverse workforce. 
 
3.  Dr. King remarked that, "life's most persistent and urgent question is, 
'what are you doing for others?'"  In celebration of MLK Day, let us remember 
that January 16, 2023, is a day of service for our communities.  In giving 
back to causes that matter to each of us, every Sailor, Marine, and civilian 
can strive towards a more united America where people from all walks of life 
are able to sit down at the table of brotherhood together.
