This NAVADMIN establishes the Chief of Chaplains as program sponsor for the professional development of Chaplain Corps (CHC) officers and Religious Program Specialists (RP) in line with reference (a). The Chief of Chaplains conducts annual short-course training for CHC officers and RPs to update essential techniques and practices in military ministry. This training provides continuing education units which may be required to maintain religious organization credentials. The FY-19 Professional Development Training will consist of a total of four days and is open to all chaplains and RPs. 2. The Professional Development Training Workshop (PDTW), conducted the first day, focuses on Professional Naval Chaplaincy. 3. The following three days, the Professional Development Training Course (PDTC) will address Religious Ministry in Combat at and from the Sea. The PDTC will enable chaplains and RPS to deliver relevant advice and effective religious support as required by references (a) and (b). 4. Course training objectives are to: a. Critically analyze religious ministry response across operational phases of war, b. Identify and assess the spiritual and moral effect of combat on service members across the phases of war, c. Develop the language of character development and warrior ethos, d. Understand how ethics, morals and values are positive factors for preventing moral and/or spiritual injury. 5. Subject to local approval, commands are authorized to provide appropriated funds in support of religious ministries within the command to include funding chaplains and RPs to attend annual PDTCs according to references (f) through (h). Participants are encouraged to attend training in their local areas. 7. Read-ahead material is required for the PDTW and the PDTC. Additional information is posted on the Naval Chaplaincy School and Center milBook site. To attend all four days of training, chaplains and RPs must register for both the PDTW (CIN: A-5G-0005) and PDTC (CIN: P-5G-1303) thorough the catalogue of Navy training courses. 8.
