Mr. John Pucciarelli grew up in Staten Island, New York. He received a commission in 1989 through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, having earned a Bachelor of Arts in History. He later earned a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, College of Command and Staff in Newport, Rhode Island in June 2005. Mr. Pucciarelli is a graduate of Class 22 of the Department of Justice, National Institute of Corrections, “Executive Excellence” Leader Development Program. He is currently a Master of Business Administration degree candidate at Christian Brothers University concentrating in Project Management.

Mr. Pucciarelli served 24 years as a Navy Surface Warfare Officer with sea tours in frigates, combat logistics support vessels and aircraft carriers. He served ashore at Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island, with the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Office of the Inspector General and as Officer-in-Charge of the Navy Absentee Collection and Information Center, Great Lakes.

Mr. Pucciarelli held command onboard Naval Consolidated Brig, Charleston, South Carolina and served onboard Naval Consolidated Brig Miramar, San Diego, California. Post retirement, he was Assistant Facility Director for Operations with Florida Department of Corrections, Santa Fe Community Release Center in Gainesville, Florida. He joined Navy Personnel Command, Corrections and Programs Office in November 2014 as Senior Correctional Program Specialist.

Mr. Pucciarelli became the Assistant Deputy Chief of Naval Personnel / Deputy Commander, Navy Personnel Command on January 2nd, 2022. He had most recently served as Deputy Director, Navy Corrections and Programs Office since December 2016. He is a Department of Justice certified auditor and an American Correctional Association auditor. He has earned the Certified Corrections Executive credential. Mr. Pucciarelli has extensive graduate-level teaching experience at the Naval War College in Strategy and Policy and was Senior Military Fellow with the Center on Irregular Warfare and Armed Groups. He is a certified executive coach with practical mentoring and teaching experience at the Navy Command Leadership School / Naval Leadership and Ethics Center.

Mr. Pucciarelli has been awarded the Department of the Navy, Civilian Service Commendation Medal and the Navy Civilian Service Achievement Medal.
