Office of Legal Counsel
(BUPERS 00J)


The Bureau of Naval Personnel (BUPERS) Office of Legal Counsel (BUPERS-00J) is led by a director who:

(1) serves as the principal echelon II advisor and staff assistant to the Deputy Chief of Naval Personnel regarding the interpretation and application of law and policy;

(2) serves in an additional duty echelon III capacity as the staff judge advocate (SJA) to Commander, Navy Personnel Command (NAVPERSCOM) and supports Commander, MyNavy Career Center (MNCC) when not assigned an SJA;

(3) provides relevant legal consultation, analysis, opinions, recommendations, and other services to BUPERS Millington and NAVPERSCOM and to MNCC when required; and

(4) provides guidance on military personnel law to SJAs, legal officers, defense counsel, and the fleet.
