Survey Policy

Navy personnel surveys are a valuable means of collecting information from Navy military and civilian personnel about various aspects of naval service and civilian employment. They provide data which enable Navy managers to make informed decisions. The Navy Survey Program Office serves two purposes in the completion of surveys.

First, the Navy Survey Program Office administers the Navy’s survey policy (OPNAVINST 5300.8C). All surveys of Navy military and civilian personnel must be reviewed and approved by the Navy survey Program Office. The goal of the policy is to manage coordination and control of surveys in order to maintain quality, minimize the impact of survey administration on Navy OPTEMPO, and provide for the life-cycle management of Navy surveys.

Second, the Survey Office is staffed by Research Psychologists, Sociologists, and Analysts available to assist with your data collection efforts that are trained in experimental design, survey design and statistical analysis reviews. The Navy Survey Program has several tools available to commands interested in gathering survey data that have been approved for the collection of data from Navy personnel in accordance with DoD and Navy information management and control regulations.

This page has several links and tools available to assist you with your data collection efforts. Included you will find survey policy and instructions, education resources, FAQs and common scenarios to help you determine applicability of Survey policy to your data collection efforts, templates that can be used to submit a request for approval, and an archive of ongoing previously approved survey efforts.

To request a survey, you may start by completing this form. Or for more information, you may contact us at navy.surveys.fct@navy.mil or by phone at (703) 604-6058 or (407) 380-7193.
