Officer Retirements Branch - PERS-835

Retirement Processing
Processes voluntary regular retirement requests and statutory regular retirements for officers below the paygrade of O-7.  PERS-835 initiates officer statutory regular retirement processing without request from the officer.  A request for voluntary retirement routes in NSIPS from the member's command through the detailing, placement, and education codes of PERS-4 and other codes, if applicable, for endorsement before routing to PERS-835.

Retirement Orders
Writes officer regular retirement orders and provides them to NPC "costing" for release.  Expected release date for retirement orders for officers serving in CONUS is 6 months prior to retirement date.  Expected release date for officers serving OCONUS is 9 months prior to retirement date.

Statement of Service
Calculates creditable service in support of a regular retirement by constructing a retirement statement of service.  Creditable service for a regular retirement is transmitted electronically to DFAS, which calculates and disburses retired pay.

New Accessions
Verifies or corrects active-duty service date, pay entry base date, and active commissioned base date for a newly commissioned officer.  BUPERS-31(x) established a health professional service date, if applicable.

Age Waiver
Facilitates consideration of a request by an officer to be retained on active duty beyond the statutory age limit.

Retire Retain
Facilitates consideration of a request by an officer to be retained on active duty in a retired status beyond the officer's retirement date.

Highest Grade Held
Facilitates consideration of a request by an enlisted member or chief warrant officer who was transferred to the Fleet Reserve that may be eligible to be advanced on the retired list to the highest officer grade held satisfactorily as determined by the Secretary of the Navy.

Tools
1.  Calculators to estimate retired pay are provided by the Defense Finance Accounting Service (DFAS) and are available here.
2.  A service member or a Command Separation Specialist may check the processing status of a retirement or separation request via Navy Standard Integrated Personnel System (NSIPS).
