Fleet Reserve Timeline
 
At least two years prior to approved fleet reserve date
  • Attend Individualized Initial Counseling session with TAP Counselor
  • Complete personal self-assessment
  • Begin the development of your Individual Transition Plan
 
Not less than 365 days prior to approved fleet reserve date
  • Attend Pre-Separation Counseling
  • Attend TAP Curriculum
 
6 to 24 months prior to requested fleet reserve transfer date
  • E-7 thru E-9 - Submit NAVPERS 1336/3 Special Request/Authorization via the chain of command
 
6 to 18 months prior to requested fleet reserve transfer date
  • E-6 and below - Submit NAVPERS 1336/3 Special Request/Authorization via the chain of command
 
5-9 months prior to approved fleet reserve date to support release of orders
  • Provide Message of Intent/PDRL-TDRL Message to PSD/TSC
  • Provide NPPSC 1900/1 NPPSC Separations Questionnaire (Blocks 1-17) & Official Awards to PSD/TSC
 
5-9 months prior to approved fleet reserve date to support release of draft DD-214
  • Provide DD-2586 Verification of Military Experience and Training (VMET)/Joint Service Transcript (JST) to PSD/TSC
  • Provide PTDY Orders/Approved Request (Job and House Hunting) to PSD/TSC
  • Provide Separation Leave Paper to PSD/TSC
 
Not less than 90 days prior to approved fleet reserve date
  • Complete Capstone event
 
Anytime prior to the approved fleet reserve date
  • Provide DD-2656 Data for Payment of Retired Personnel to PSD/TSC**
  • Provide Final Approval Message to PSD/TSC
  • Provide DD-2648 Pre-Separation Counseling Checklist to PSD/TSC
  • Provide Command Check-Out Sheet to PSD/TSC
  • Provide NAVPERS 7041/1 PCS Travel via NSIPS ESR PCS Travel
  • Provide Bachelors Enlisted Quarter (BEQ) Check-Out to PSD/TSC
  • Provide NPPSC 1900/1 NPPSC Separations Questionnaire (Medical and Dental Endorsements) to PSD/TSC
  • Provide NPPSC 1800/1 NPPSC Fleet Reserve/Retirement Checklist to PSD/TSC
 
**DD-2656 must be received by DFAS 45-60 days prior to the approved retirement date or full deductions will automatically start, no exceptions.
