USS JACK H. LUCAS is the first in class DDG 51 Flight III ship, centered on the all new AN/SPY-6(V)1 Air and Missile Defense Radar. The ship is named for Marine PFC and later 82nd Airborne Army Captain Jacklyn H. Lucas, recipient of the Medal of Honor during WWII. JACK H LUCAS is the next generation Air and Missile Defense Commander platform, commanded by a SWO O-6 Captain. Her tasking and crew size mirrors that of the CG-47 Ticonderoga class. Not only is JACK H LUCAS the FIRST EVER Aegis baseline 10 ship, she has several upgrades to her engineering plant, providing greater electrical generation and cooling capacity. USS JACK H. LUCAS is a historic milestone in the US Navy’s long heritage of warship advancements due to her generational leap forward in capabilities.
