The package is sent to PERS-801G where it is maintained until the next lateral transfer board convening date. They can assist you with any questions relating to your package including content, format, etc.. WHEN DOES THE ACTIVE DUTY TRANSFER/REDESIGNATION BOARD CONVENE?
Lateral transfer boards meet twice per year, typically in Spring and Fall. The deadline for package submission 60 days prior to the official board convening date. Other elements of your package, such as recent fitness reports, recommendations, or awards, can be added to your package between the cut off date and the board convening date. PERS-801G can be contacted for cut off dates and to verify receipt of package/updates.
WHAT ARE MY CHANCES FOR SELECTION, AND HOW CAN I STRENGTHEN MY PACKAGE?
Lateral transfer into the Aerospace Engineering Duty Community is very competitive. Approximately 80-100 officers per year request lateral transfer into the Aerospace Engineering Duty Officer community. It is not uncommon for some officers to apply to several lateral transfer boards before being selected. As a primary criterion, board members will be looking for sustained superior performance and a technical background. If possible, endorsement letters from Commanding Officers should be more than passing instructions; a CO's support is an important part of the consideration for selection.
