SkillBridge Guide
For comprehensive information, refer to the Navy SkillBridge Step by Step Guide on the right, which should answer any questions you may have. If it doesn't, please email navy_skillbridge.fct@navy.mil for assistance.
The DOD SkillBridge program offers Sailors a valuable opportunity to gain civilian work experience through industry training, apprenticeships, or internships. It connects Sailors with trusted industry partners for real-world job experiences, easing the transition from military to civilian careers. Sailors participating in SkillBridge continue to receive their military compensation and benefits while gaining hands-on training and experience in high-demand fields. This program helps Sailors bridge the gap between military service and civilian employment, while industry partners assess the Sailor’s suitability for future opportunities.

SkillBridge Timeline & Application
Sailors may not apply for SkillBridge until they are within 365 days of their expected separation. Applications are via the MyNavy Education SkillBridge portal at https://myeducation.netc.navy.mil.
SkillBridge is not an entitlement, and COs have final approval authority, considering mission readiness. Participation length is based on Paygrade and time to separation. It must begin no earlier than the applicable number of days before separation and must start before terminal leave, PTDY, or other separation duties, which can only occur after SkillBridge has started. For details, see the SkillBridge Timeline & Application FAQ on the right.
  • Tier 1 (E5 and below): 180 days or less
  • Tier 2 (E6-E9): 120 days or less

For Tier 4, a formal command endorsement is required.
