When calling your detailer and leaving a voicemail. Please include your number and name. Speak slowly and clearly. If you cannot get ahold of the Detailer, please send an email to the main Detailer email that is located below. This will ensure someone sees your message in the event the Detailer is out of the office at the time.

Ability to perform welding processes for High Pressure Pipe and Plate Welding as described in NAVSHIPS Technical Manual S9086-CH-STM-010/CH74 Vol. 1. This course is only offered 3 times a year on each coast. The pass rate for this course is low. If you are selected or interested in obtaining U53A, please practice your SMAW and GTAW skills daily. Utilize MIL-STD-22D WELD JOINT DESIGN during your practice. U53A is an NEC that is needed around the fleet. Obtaining this NEC not only helps with personal experience and skills. It opens up the ability to Detail a Sailor to more commands.
Performs non-destructive tests using Visual, Magnetic Particle and Liquid Penetrant inspection methods in accordance with standards set forth in NSTM Chapter 074 Volume 2. This course is the core course for the NDT Inspector Pathway. This will normally be given first if a Sailor is selected for a billet that requires either U49A or U50A en route.
U49A RT NDT Inspector: PAYGRADES- E4-E9
Performs non-destructive tests using Visual, Magnetic Particle and Liquid Penetrant inspection methods in accordance with standards set forth in NSTM Chapter 074 Volume 2. Special emphasis is placed on radiation control and detection and requirements for safe usage of radioactive sources. Qualified to take and evaluate radiographs.
Performs non-destructive tests using Visual, Magnetic Particle and Liquid Penetrant inspection methods in accordance with standards set forth in NSTM Chapter 074 Volume 2. Ultrasonic inspection to determine percentage of bond on braze joints, thickness inspection on plate and pipe, and shearwave inspection to test welds, in accordance with NSTM S9086-CH-STM-010/CH 074 VOL 2.
NDT Examiner has strict requirements that must be met before scheduling a course to obtain this NEC. Please contact your Detailer if you hold U49A or U50A and are interested in U51A.
