Permanent Military Instructor (PMI)

 

FY-24 Permanent Military Instructor Program
 
The Permanent Military Instructor (formerly the Junior Permanent Military Professor) Program seeks active duty officers selected for or in the permanent grade of Lieutenant Commander. These officers may be unrestricted line, Information Warfare community, or warfare qualified officers in the designators 1200, 1440, 1460, 1510, 1710, and 5100. Those selected for the program shall serve as faculty at the United States Naval Academy until statutory retirement or selection for O-5.
 
Applicants should hold a relevant masters degree for the area of teaching sought after. A limited number may be selected to complete a relevant degree prior to teaching, based on USNA demand signal.
 
Additional eligibility criteria are included in OPNAVINST 1520.40B, Permanent Military Professor Program. Of note, OPNAVINST 1520.40C is currently under review.
 
Community Managers will manage which year groups are eligible to participate and the individual community obligations. Applicants are encouraged to discuss their potential eligibility with their Officer Community Manager.
