Description and Wear of Uniform Components

 
Article 3501.101
Undershirt, White 
  

a.  Description  
 
(1) Standard Undershirt. Plain and made of 100% cotton or poly/cotton blend. May be short sleeve, sleeveless, V-neck, or crew neck collar design (figure 3501.101-1). Short sleeves shall be quarter-length.
 
(2) Female Undershirt. Optional. Plain and made of 100% cotton or poly/cotton blend. Specifically designed for female bodies (form fitting). May be short sleeve, sleeveless, V-neck, or crew neck design. Sleeved undershirts shall be a quarter-length sleeve with an elliptical (crew-neck) collar.

(3) Nursing Undershirts. Nursing undershirts are authorized as an optional uniform item for nursing Sailors (figure 3501.101-2). Nursing T-shirts may be long or short sleeve. Long sleeve nursing T-shirts will be worn with fully extended long sleeve uniform shirts/blouses only (i.e. not with short sleeve uniforms/rolled up sleeves). Nursing T-shirt will be worn tucked-in unless worn with maternity uniforms. When worn with maternity uniforms, the T-shirt will not extend beyond nor be visible below the hem of the maternity top being worn. Removal of a uniform shirt/blouse when wearing a nursing T-shirt is authorized only in designated lactation rooms. Nursing T-shirts are not authorized in environments requiring safety or organizational clothing.

 
c.  Correct Wear
 
(1) Authorized for wear with Navy service, service dress and formal uniforms.
 
(2) Wear right side out, front of shirt to front of body and tucked in to the slacks or skirt being worn.

(3) Crew neck undershirts shall be worn with Jumper uniforms, and all uniforms when aboard ships, industrial environments and in areas where a fire hazards exists or as prescribed.

 
 
(4) Female Sailors may wear undershirts optionally at shore commands, except when wearing utility and jumper style uniforms (crew neck undershirts are required). For shipboard restrictions, refer to article 1101.5.
 
 
(5) Nursing T-shirts may be long or short sleeve. Long sleeve nursing T-shirts will be worn with fully extended long sleeve uniform shirts/blouses only (i.e. not with short sleeve uniforms/rolled up sleeves). Nursing T-shirt will be worn tucked-in unless worn with maternity uniforms. When worn with maternity uniforms, the T-shirt will not extend beyond nor be visible below the hem of the maternity top being worn.

(6) Removal of a uniform shirt/blouse when wearing a nursing T-shirt is authorized only in designated lactation rooms.
 

d.  Ownership Markings (Optional for Officers/CPOs)
Surname, first initial and middle initial (if applicable) on outside of the front, 1 inch from the bottom of the shirt and at right of the center.
