Survivor Benefits

Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP)
The SBP provides a monthly annuity of up to 55 percent of the annuity base amount with a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), to an eligible spouse or children. The monthly annuity for a natural person with an insurable interest, which also includes a COLA, is 55 percent of the amount of the gross retired pay after the cost of participation is subtracted.

Reserve Component Survivor Benefit Plan (RCSBP)
RCSBP extends eligibility to the Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) to Reserve Component members who completed the years of service to be eligible to receive retired pay but have not yet reached retirement age. RCSBP allows members to provide an annuity based on their retired pay to qualified survivors.
