Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH)

Eligible family members occupying free government housing on the date the member dies may continue to occupy such housing without charge for a period of 365 days subject to space availability and approval by the local base Commander.  If they vacate the free government housing before the 365 days are up, the BAH will be paid for the remaining unused days once Navy Casualty is in receipt of the Vacate Quarters Letter.  If the family members are occupying Public Private Venture (PPV) housing or occupying housing in the local economy at the time of death of the servicemember, they may receive BAH or an overseas housing allowance for 365 days after the member’s death.  This entitlement will be processed automatically by Navy Casualty when applicable.
