General Description:
Nuclear trained MM's perform duties in nuclear propulsion plants operating reactor control, propulsion and power generation systems. The character of nuclear field jobs is mentally stimulating and offers career growth. The nuclear field provides opportunities to work closely with specialists in the nuclear, technology and engineering fields.
Training:
MM training consist of approximately 13 weeks of Nuclear Field A School and 26 weeks of Nuclear Power School. These schools are located in Goose Creek, SC - near Charleston. Following successful completion of these two schools, 26 weeks of hands on training will occur at one of the Naval Prototypes located in Goose Creek, SC or Ballston Spa, NY - near Albany.
At sea:
Nuclear trained enlisted Sailor's will be stationed on either an Aircraft Carrier or a Submarine (volunteer only) during sea tours.

AR + MK + EI + GS > 252 or AR + MK + VE + MC > 252
NFb:
AR + MK + EI + GS > 235 or AR + MK + VE + MC > 235
AND
AR + AR + MK + MC + NAPT > 290 or AR + MK + VE + MC + NAPT > 290
NAPT minimum passing score is 55
All candidates for ratings in the nuclear field program must meet test score criteria and other criteria set forth in COMNAVCRUITCOMINST 1130.8K (Navy Recruiting Manual - Enlisted series). All candidates must be a high school diploma graduate and have passed at least one year of algebra.
