U.S. Naval Academy/Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS)

Shaping the future leaders of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.

The United States Naval Academy and Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) are seeking highly motivated, top-performing Chief Petty Officers and Senior Chief Petty Officers to mentor, guide, and instill a warfighting ethos in Midshipmen, Midshipman or Cadet candidates. As Senior Enlisted Leaders, they lead and mentor approximately 120 Midshipmen or Midshipman candidates in direct partnership with a Company Officer (Navy or Marine Corps O-3/O-4), forming the command team they will model throughout their careers.

The Company Senior Enlisted Leader directly impacts their development through a demanding, highly visible role requiring consistent presence beyond the duty day as they prepare for commissioning. Those selected must model the highest standards of character, professionalism, and personal readiness—reinforcing expectations through their example, setting the tone, and upholding standards when difficult decisions are required.

The Senior Enlisted Leader bridges the roles of Recruit Division Commander and Command Master Chief—bringing credibility, experience, and deckplate leadership to the development of future officers. They teach leadership through action, earn trust through consistency, and provide the steady enlisted perspective Midshipmen will rely on throughout their careers, while partnering closely with the Company Officer and fostering teamwork across the active-duty staff.

The following are the minimum screening requirements:

  • Be in paygrade E-7 or E-8.

  • Demonstrate initiative to identify friction, develop solutions, and deliver results.

  • Warfare qualified; eligible for 8RDC screening per MILPERSMAN 1306-954.

  • RDC “C” School graduate.

  • Proven record of sustained, high-level performance across diverse assignments.

  • Maintain a personal and military appearance consistent with USNA standards in high-visibility environments.

  • Maintain physical fitness commensurate with Midshipman standards.

Some of the benefits of Company Senior Enlisted Leader duty are:

  • $450 per month Special Duty Assignment Pay.

  • $220 annual uniform upkeep stipend.

  • Opportunity to earn the Master Training Specialist qualification (USNA).

  • Per ACE evaluation, RDCs may earn up to 15 college credits toward a bachelor’s degree.

  • Perhaps the best leadership job in the Navy.
