Flag Writer Program

Are you a Warfare qualified YN1/ with 6 years of service and 1 year TIG in regular Navy? Are looking for a challenging, fulfilling, and rewarding assignment in a fast-paced environment? 
If so, then this is the community for you!  Flag Writers have a long-standing tradition of providing superior executive level administrative support to senior leadership across the Department of Defense in a variety of assignments and duties.
The Flag Writing Community has a total of 147 billets, spanning the entire globe supporting a wide array of commands such as; (Type 1 CONUS) SECNAV, OPNAV, Combatant Commands (CENTCOM, etc.), USFF, SUBFOR, NETC; (Type 1 Afloat CONUS) CSGs and ESGs; (Type 4 Afloat Overseas) CSG-5, ESG-7, 5th and 7th Fleet; (Type 6 Ashore Overseas) COCOMS (EUCOM, etc.), NAVEUR, CNFJ, CNFK, CLWP, 6th Fleet.

The Flag Writer Placement Coordinator (PC) is YNCS Gisela Balmaceda.  There are seven regions world-wide which assist the PC with training, recruiting and management of the community.
Assignments/placement will be made outside of the normal Sea/Shore rotational consideration.  PRDs established to align as closely as possible with that of the FO/GO.
Tour lengths will vary between 18-24 months and normally set to coincide with the PRD of the Flag Officer/General Officer.
 
MNA Selection Screening Process:
 

If selected via MNA, member will still be required to complete full screening package and officially be hired by the Flag Officer prior to orders being released.  Contact the Flag Writer Placement Coordinator for any additional questions.

 
Flag Writer Screening Process (Up to 13 months prior to PRD)

1. Submit 1306 via My Navy Portal to be release by the YN Detailer. (Paper 1306s will not be accepted)
2. Upon approved released, the PC will contact the member and provide additional information to assist with screening process.
3. Regional Coordinator will assist in putting the nomination package together.
