JPME Phase I is no longer required to screen for command. NAVADMIN 136/10.

Officers should strive to achieve full Joint Service Officer (JSO) status, which requires completion of JPME Phases I and II, as well as a minimum 24-month tour in a JCS-approved Joint Duty Assignment.
U.S. War Colleges and selected foreign war colleges award completion of JPME Phase I.  Some programs also offer accredited Masters Degrees.  For more information on Service Colleges, Foreign Service Colleges, Fellowship opportunities, and Joint Officer information, visit the Joint Officer page.
